This guide will outline some key steps in cleaning even heavy-duty bongs with the simplest ingredients so that you can get back to having a satisfying session.

Cleaning Pipes With Rubbing Alcohol and Sea Salt

Bowls ranging from chillums, steamrollers, and Sherlocks are best cleaned using two common ingredients you can easily find at home: isopropyl alcohol and sea salt. Combining the two gives you an effective way to clean your dry glass pieces. Using about a quarter of a cup of coarse sea salt and six to eight tablespoons of isopropyl alcohol, submerge your glass piece inside a clear plastic storage bag and zip it closed. Shake the bag vigorously for about a minute and then let the mixture soak upright for around four to five hours. The glass should be fully covered by the mixture the entire time. 

After the mixture has sat for several hours, shake it again for two to three minutes to dislodge any plugs that might have settled. Remove the pipe using tongs and use cotton swabs to scrub out any sticky spots left behind. Rinse under lukewarm water and dry well on a paper towel before using. 

Cleaning a Bong With Vinegar and Heat

Bubblers and high-tech glass bongs are cleaned with a simple solution of vinegar and water. Add water, vinegar, and your bong to a small saucepan and bring it to a boil. Reduce it to a simmer on the lowest possible setting, and make sure your bong is at room temperature before placing it in the pot (cold pipes in hot water will crack).
